Day 21
Today was a day to relax. The Pahrump Nugget was kind enough to give me an extra night free of charge. Although I didn't have any serious biking to do I did bike around town to stop at verizon, do my laundry, and pick up a package at the Pahrump Chamber of Commerce. The Weed Chamber of Commerce had sent me a battery charger that my good friends Sara and Martin bought me for my trip. They also sent me another shipment of Brubars. Brubar is one of my sponsors and if you order a case or more Brubar will give a portion of sales to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. ( just use the code "biking for wishes" during checkout ) After doing a blog update in the room I went down to the casino and got dinner. After that it was time for sleep, I had planned to leave early in the morning to try and beat the heat.

Day 22
Woke up early and was checked out and on the road shortly after 5a.m. I watched the sunrise on the mountains and desert as I biked down the highway towards Las Vegas. The first 35 miles were mostly uphill and a little challenging. It was 65 degrees at the start of the ride but warmed up to the 90's pretty quickly. There was quite a variety of plant life and cacti along the highway, some of which I had never seen before. I eventually reached the Spring Mountains and climbed to the summit of 5,490 feet. Hard to believe I was at sea level just a few days ago. From the top of the summit it was a 30 mile downhill into Las Vegas. The scenery was incredible and I made several stops on my way down the mountain. I stopped to explore and do some hiking at Mt. Potosi and the very beautiful Red Rock Canyon. It was really awesome to see the city of Las Vegas from 25 miles away and 5,000 feet up. Biking into the city wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but I did have to be extra defensive and very careful with all of the crazy drivers. I made it to the Stratosphere shortly after noon and checked into my room on the 22nd floor. The Stratosphere was very good to me and gave me two free nights as well as offered me the opportunity to do the SkyJump! ( more about that later ) My good friends Justin and Jason who live and work in Las Vegas met me at the Stratosphere for a few drinks and then we headed over to the Ellis Island brewery. It just so happened that my good friend Miah from Weed happened to have a layover in Vegas so we got to hang out and explore the strip. It was a really great day, awesome bike ride into Las Vegas and hanging out with great friends, can't beat it!

Day 23
Woke up early after getting back to the room late and met with some of the staff from the Stratosphere to do a photo shoot. Everyone at the Stratosphere was really nice and the photo shoot went pretty quick. They asked me if I would like to do the SkyJump which is a 108 story free fall from the top of the Stratosphere. Even though I was nervous about it I could not pass it up! The SkyJump is the tallest free fall in the world, from the tallest tower west of the Mississippi. The staff at the SkyJump was a lot of fun and before I knew it I was on top of the Stratosphere looking down at the strip. They had me step out onto a platform outside, counted to 3, and I jumped off! The initial jump was scary but after that it was one of the best feelings falling towards the strip! I had so much fun and can't wait to do it again someday. A cable system slows you down just before you hit the ground, also a little bit scary but very exciting. I was given a dvd and some photos of my jump and was now wide awake! Spent most of the day exploring the Stratosphere. Had some good pizza, took a trip up to the tower to check out the views and the other rides, stopped by the pool, and relaxed until Justin and Jason got off of work. We all met up and headed over to the New York New York Casino to eat at one of my favorite Mexican restaurants, Gonzalez Gonzalez. After dinner Justin showed me some new parts of the strip since my last trip to Vegas. We explored City Center, very impressive architecture and artwork. Stopped at Paris for an incredible mojito and then took a cab back to the room. What a fun day off of the bike!
