August 23rd - 25th

August 23rd - 9.59 / 3,533.29 - Day off at Harris Beach State Park

Today was a nice day off at Harris Beach State Park. I biked into town for breakfast and to have a look around Brookings. Headed back to camp and hung out with the other bikers in camp, did some laundry, and just relaxed. Made a second trip back to town for a barbecue and then went back to camp and partied. Overall a really nice and relaxing day at beautiful Harris Beach.

August 24th - 41.61 / 3,574.90 - Harris Beach State Park (Oregon) - Mill Creek State Park ( California )

It was a cold and foggy but exciting morning as biked the last 7 miles of Oregon and entered California . I rode all day with Scott, Missy, and good ol' Buckaroo. We stopped for ice cream and met up with Joann and Kyli who joined us for the rest of the ride. The 6 mile uphill battle to the campground was beautiful! As we neared the top of the hill the fog lifted and Redwood trees started to pop up alongside the road, amazing! It was an exciting moment for me to see the Redwoods, one of the ultimate goals of my bike trip. We entered Mill Creek State Park with a steep and curvy 3 mile ride down to the campsite. It was a chilly but star filled night in Northern California.

August 25th - 12.90 / 3,587.80 - Mill Creek State Park - Crescent City
I departed ways with my new friends and headed back to Crescent City. I had passed it up yesterday to spend one more night with the gang. Crescent City is my destination for the trip and it was a great 6 mile downhill ride into town. I stopped for a coffee and ran into Josh who was camping with us a couple days ago. We got a tasty pizza and found a really nice campsite on the Smith River and Pacific Ocean. It was a perfect place to spend the afternoon. We took a short bike ride to the lighthouse and a couple other nice viewpoints along the ocean. After sunset we cooked up some soup over a nice fire and then fell asleep to the sound of the crashing waves. So peaceful and relaxing!

Me, Scott, Missy, Joann, Kyli, and Buckaroo - great crew!
